Different quotations on why people believe in astrology

These are a few quotations from two different books. One book is called "Encyclopaedia of Astrology' by Nicholas deVore. Nicholas used to be president of the Astrology research society. The other book is titled "The Practice and Profession of Astrology" by Stephen Arroys.

Rev, John Butler, rector of Litchborough, felt himself called upon to exterminate Astrology in England. To do so effectively he began to read "moderately" on the subject - with the result, in his own words.
'It begot in me a reverence for these gray hairs which as unjustly as ignorantly I had despised....I find that next to Theology, nothing leads me more near unto the sight of God than this sacred astrological study of the great works of Nature."

St Thomas Aquinas
'The celestial bodies are the cause of all that takes place in the sublunar world.'

Hippocrates, the most revered name in medicine, said.
'A physician without any knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician.'

Mark Twain said.
'I was born with Halley's Comet, and I expect to die upon its return' - and he did.

Shakespeare, in his many allusions to Astrology, evidences a deep interest in and a thorough knowledge of the science. Speaking in the words of King Lear, he says:
'The stars above govern our conditions.'

Another character is made to remark:
'I was born, sir, when the crab was ascending: all my life affairs go backwards'.

Sir Francis Bacon
The natures and dispositions of men are, not without truth, distinguished from the predominance of the planets.

Henry Miller
Astrology does not offer an explanation of the laws of the universe, nor why the universe exists. What it does, to put it in simplest terms is to show us that there is a rhythm to the Universe, and that man's own life partakes of this rhythm.

C. G. Jung

Astology is assured recognition from psychology, without further restriction, because astrology presents the summation of all psychological knowledge of antiquity.
